Tom Op De Boerderij

This summer, Theatergroep Suburbia presents the music-theater production Tom at the Farm, in collaboration with the ensemble Black Pencil and Stadsboerderij Almere. Tom at the Farm is a gripping love drama by author Michel Marc Bouchard, and is being staged in the Netherlands for the very first time.

Tom is deep in mourning. His partner has passed away. He travels to his late lover’s childhood home—a farm far removed from the big city. On the eve of the funeral, he meets the family for the first time: mother Agathe and brother Francis.

In the oppressive isolation of the farm, a complex and dangerous game of tension and intimacy unfolds between the two men and the mother.

The French-Canadian author wrote Tom à la ferme in 2011, a suspenseful love drama about intolerance and suffocating secrets. The play gained international acclaim through the haunting film adaptation by ‘wunderkind’ actor and director Xavier Dolan. Since then, it has been translated and performed more than thirty-five times worldwide.
